ABOUT THE PROJECT

Teaching about climate change is by no means easy, but it is a challenge worth tackling for all those involved — communities, schools, teachers, and students alike. As an interdisciplinary issue, climate change can open young minds to deeper avenues of thought and reinforce learning in social science.

The purpose of the CC-EDU project is equipping students in having a holistic perspective over climate change and learn about collective responsibility toward environmental protection and prevention of further damaging situations. The aim of the project is preparing teachers to deal with the complexity of the topic, making it factual and with a view on local, regional, and international situations, using different approaches.

OBJECTIVES

The 6 partners coming 6 countries offer a wide European diversity and socio-economical contexts

(towns of different sizes, economical life and culture) and will at the same time contribute and benefit

from the project.

The partners will:

  • Establish  a multi-national and multi-disciplinary network composed by the professionals with different expertise and professionalism related to climate change, or environmental topics, belonging to different sectors and fields, to offer a more varied and holistic approach to the communication possibilities and solutions
  • Investigate effective pedagogies and communication solutions on how to deal with the topic at school and in relation with other subjects in the curricula
  • Formalise a program useful to teachers to increase their communication competences, ability to understand the complexity of the issue and how to foster transversal skills out of the process
  • Elaborate ready and easy to use lessons, based on actual school subjects teachers can use during normal class hours, as support materials and complementary/integration to normal text books contents.
  • Assessing the results with 20 external evaluators with different specialty, professional background and affiliation to ensure accuracy of contents and quality of resources
  • Foster the exploitation, sustainability and transfer of the resources created by diffusing them on different channels and events
  • Increase the usability and relevance of the proposed products, by testing it with schools coming from the 6 partners’ countries

RESULTS

The partnership undertakes to produce the following results:

  • E-course and workshops on communication and storytelling techniques designed for an effective approach to scientific, civic, and cultural aspects, and offering ways to simplify the interdisciplinary and cross-curricular approach to the complex topic. Teacher’s Guide helps educators to fill in the knowledge gaps.
  • Digital library: collection of resources ready to be used in a class setting, tutorials, exercises and other educational materials selected among the ones already available at the EU level and participants’ country level, in addition to newly prepared materials. Categorized and ordered on the platform based on real school subjects to make it easier for teachers to pick them (especially in schools already using white boards)
